This rare book is one of a very small, special printing by the Shady Myrick Research Project. You will not find this listed even in rare book searches, much less on Amazon. Pester and Marshal South had a special relationship, not only as virtual hermits and naturists, but also as correspondents. Pester wrote regularly to South from San Quentin and later, Folsom prison. South wrote many letters on Pester’s behalf in attempt to win his parole. It is fair to say that they were both influenced by each other. Wild’s book gives good background to Pester and why he went to prison. Wild, however, was never aware of the long correspondence between the two of them.
